I think it's definitely genes. Which genes exactly? I don't know. It must be far more complicated than Merck's model of "excess DHT". It's just like other big pharma companies putting depression down to "a serotonin problem".
I have maybe 7 male family members with major hair loss and like 7 without it. I had way better hair than my brother and dad, near perfect -- at a slightly older age. Until stimulant medication, and then anticonvulsant medication. Also my pattern is unlike my brother and father. Mine is diffuse. Telogen effluvium except it didn't come back, perhaps the genes for hairloss were turned on. It could have happened earlier tho with other meds, didn't thankfully. I think it could be epigenetic and it's for sure nature and nurture. I've seen people with all manner of neuro and psyche meds lose hair. Some regrew afterwards, often they did not. Some never worsened tho, like a female friend that took Wellbutrin. She had "parts in her hair". Same with me post-adderall. To the uninitiated, even doctors they'd think "no hair loss", but it was marked difference for her and I. Mine's worse now... but I'm male and tried other stuff.
My eyebrows would shed on amps too. I put spiro cream on there. I had such nice angled eyebrows. Thinner now.

I'm far from balanced. With full hair @43.
Dad had a transplant in the 80's. His remaining hair continued to fall after. Showing off the bizarre replants. Dad ended up getting tattoos on his scalp later to hide it. A real mess, and he doesn't have the option to shave it now.
No amount of fasting or clean living helped him.
Could this be mostly genes? I mean occasionally in my fam, some relatives kept their hair, despite bad lifestyle, and died young to boot. So it's not like they were healthy.
Thoughts?"
