14 day water fast

Completed 14 day water on Sept 30th. The two hardest issues on the fast were sleep and food cravings. Hard to fall asleep and frequent wakings, but still felt normal when finally getting out of bed. During the fast I felt I really hit an easy stride at about 9-10 days. First 3 days of low carb flu was quite unpleasant and food cravings were great. Day dreaming about food never seemed to subside, but the hunger pangs eventually died down at 9-10 days.

I am 6'2, and went from 200 to 180lbs at the end of the fast(I would guess I was about 18-20% BF at the start), looking much nicer/leaner, and stable now at 185lbs post fast.

My main health issues are acne, dandruff and hair shedding(post 2X accutane user). Post fast my skin has improved beyond what I thought was even remotely possible, I believe this is due in part to de-calcification of the skin. In the two week fast I had lots of milia on upper chest and neck which have diminished. The fast was likely using up unbalanced minerals or helping to dump them. So far shedding seems maybe a little less but still occurring, been using dense salt spray and starting lecithin soon(poly80 ordered as well). Scalp is much nicer and dandruff has been greatly reduced.

Broke the fast with lemon egg soup for the first 3-4 days, made large pots and ate it all day. By day 4 was eating seafood, rice, oatmeal, apples, normal meals. I can go longer without feeling hungry. Using salmon, tuna, oysters, shrimp, scallops so far.

I am still not having stable sleep, managed 7.5hr stretch on day 3 post fast, but now waking at 5hrs but able to fall back asleep. Hoping this will improve with time.

Should add I am not taking any supplements, just lots of seafood, rice and vegetable juice, and skin continues to improve daily, next hurdle is hair regrowth.

I will be starting the Bruess protocol fast Oct 16th for 40days, and will start a log for it.

Exciting stuff Orion! I'm looking forward to hearing the results from your longer fast.

Are you planning on doing the Thorne methylation protocol at any point?

So far after the 14 day water fast, seeing great improvements daily without any supplements, I do have Thorne extras on hand but plan to not use anything but food. Seafood seems to be the key.

Keep us posted man, what seafood recipe you do? Any soups? that is what I found best.

Do you also feel that you respond to carbs better now?

This is going to be great...

I was considering doing this but need some more evidence before I block out 40 days to starve.

Gbold quote:"what I usually do I fast and I swim for long distances. this forces the body into the shock state, You would not believe how my body transforms. I fasted for 65 days once and swam every single day in the ocean. After that people from my gym could not recognize me man. Neighbor were cracking up since I got so young . It was funny, skin face, eyes, everything. Just back to under 20. And I am 40. it was incredible difference. So I always swim in the ocean when I fast. I guess body takes what it needs from the water to rebalance ideally under stressful situation. If you are near the ocean you should try this.

This is so anti Peat. but this stuff works big time. And then when you come off the fast, you need to eat sea food. So you get zinc and selenium in so your metabolism speeds up faster.

People are stupid when they break the fast, they start eating carbs, you cant do it. You need to eat more sea food protein. to speed up the metabolism otherwise you will gain weight.

Also funny part is that when you swim every day , your muscles dont disappear on the fast.It looks more like cutting not fasting."

This sounds waaaaay too good to be true...summer is on the way here and I could easily swim for an hour or so most days.

I just can’t convince myself to stop eating for such a long time without knowing it will work.

1) what are you hoping for by fasting again?
2) last fast you did had high dose progesterone - would you say now that all the benefits were from fasting rather than prog?
3) you don’t look gaunt and weak or tired?

Yes definitely respond better to carbs and can go way longer now without having to eat, can go 15hrs overnight and not wake up starving.

I am using salmon with bone/skin, tuna, scallops, shrimp, oysters so far. I am refeeding bigtime, since I will be starting the 40 day fast in a week. I still make the lemon egg soup, really enjoy that combo. Also lots of rice with chicken or vegetable stock.

Will track my progress on here, I am really looking forward to it. 14 day fast did really great things, seems so counter intuitive but my health seems better for it.

Skin health after the 14 day fast is unbelievable, so I want to further push the reset and snapback. Mainly I would like to see some real hair regrowth and shift away from the non stop shedding over the last several years.

I think the high dose prog may have helped, but I now think that it was all related to draining potassium, which was very high on the hair test.

Was definitely weak and tired on the fast, but post fast look lean and feel great.

What specifically is good about your skin now? Like just acne free or wrinkles gone, texture/tone etc?

Did you exercise during the fast?

I’m considering the breuss fast in summer so I can hit the ocean everyday like he suggested.

It is not as bad as it sounds. After doing a 10 day water fast, going on another fast seems like a joke mentally now. I was heavily against fasting and dreaded doing it mentally at first, but after doing it now, it seems like WTF was I worried about. I didn't lose any muscle and many existing issues I had prior to fasting are fixed.

Fasting increases insulin sensitivity and it can empty fat out of the liver (which will improve glycogen storage when coming off), so when you come off you will be able to go longer without eating and retain glycogen much better prior to fasting so each fast in future gets easier and easier.

Oiliness is reduced, redness, puffiness, dandruff, ance all reduced, just looks younger. My skin(face, chest, back, shoulders) was seriously messed up from excessive oiliness and acne. I never though in a million years it could look young and healthy again, feel smooth and soft. After years of trying all the diets; keto, paleo, high carb, low carb, etc,etc,etc... going full RP was my last attempt at solving this, read all about Peat in 2010, but balked the sugar talk. So the last year was full Peat(Milk, OJ, sugar, fruit, zero starch, zero fat/PUFA), saw some success, skin was better then all the other attempts but not 100%. Doing a 3 day fast in August then 14 day water in Sept changed everything, very grateful that gbolduev contributed to the PFS thread.

Sleeping and digestion is also better, pounded some mega large meals this weekend with family, previously this would have destroyed me, now body just chews through it and bowel movements are excellent.

I walked 45mins each day on the fast and only about 3 days of the 14 I lifted light weights, fasting is tiring and energy levels were low. Also very grumpy and daydreaming of food alot.

I am starting a 40 day Bruess next Monday

Will you juice, or used bottled juice?
I have difficulties finding the winter radish and the celery root. I believe fresh is better though...

I am going to use the Biotta bottled Breuss, and will use low sodium V8 as backup with bottle Beet juice mixed in.

Will consume 500ml per day. Probably 250ml in morning and 250ml at dinner.

We'll be doing it together man. I'm going for 21 days on Breuss beginning next Friday.

Me and my girl are starting a Breuss fast this Friday. The plan is to see if we can make it at least 7 days and increase from there to 10, 14, etc. up to 21 based on how we're feeling. Breuss' opinion of his own protocol was that the 42-day fast isn't necessary if you don't have cancer. We both work in an office so trying to make it work on weekdays will be challenging, that's why we're hoping to knock out the first few days on a long weekend.

We just picked up the first round of organic veggies to juice and ordered all the teas which are pretty specific. Sage tea + st. johns wort + peppermint + lemon balm @ approx 3 liters per day (to replenish lost fluids) and Kidney tea (horsetail, nettle, knotgrass and st. johns wort) @ 1/4 cup 3 times per day is all included in the default Breuss protocol.

I also plugged in a rough estimate of the ingredients I could find in Cronometer and in 500 ML of homemade Breuss juice there is approx. 260 cals (8g of protein, 1.5g of fat, 55g of carb) and a nice array of minerals and vitamins.

***EDIT**** The cronometer stats are probably a bit off because there isn't a listing in the database for potato juice or radish juice, etc. but the 500ml bottled Breuss juice has 180 cals (6g protein, 0g fat, 40g carb) so it's in the ballpark.

I'm really excited to see what happens with you and @Orion here. Both of you have PFS, correct? Are your symptoms still fairly severe? I plan on starting with a long fast, possibly followed by methylation. Have you looked into something like Thorne Extra for after the fast?
