Malibu's Post Accutane / Finasteride Log

Hey everyone,

Some of you may have seen my posts on swolesource, however as that forum is a shitshow these days I will be starting a log here.

Recap of my story:

I am 23 years old, and took

Finasteride from from December 2018 to December 2020.
Accutane from June 2019 to Jan 2020.

Some brain fog and depression developed gradually from Fin, beginning in 2019 probably.
Then Accutane induced dry eyes, lips and skin which remained after quitting.
Then was hit with ahedonia and hardcore sexual symptoms in December 2020, after a night of heavy drinking and weed smoking. And the brain fog got way more intense.

And from this point on, many PFS symptoms appeared or worsened, before stabilizing into a pretty brutal case.

My symptoms eventually included:
-Extreme brain fog that felt like I was intoxicated
-Head pressure
-Erectile dysfunction
-No libido
-Anhedonia, emotional numbness
-Dry skin, lips and eyes
-Depression & Zero motivation
-Numb, dry glans that remained soft during erections
-Cold shrunken genitals
-“Hard flaccid”
-No masculinity / "mojo"
-Anxiety
-Gum recession
-Always feeling dehydrated
-Loose skin
-Joint pain

Basically everything except insomnia.

I quit fin and thought I was fucked for life but after a few months I discovered TMO. Started the protocol originally in July 2021 but fell off.

My biggest weakness is that my brain will go to places like: "TMO won't work for me because I took accutane" and this has derailed me several times.

Nonetheless, I regained my composure in January 2022, restarting the protocol with a 2nd juice cleanse. From then on, there was slow but noticeable improvement. I also did an 8-day water fast in May 2022.

Between August 2022 and June 2023 I did 3 cycles of Ultra Hard.

By late 2022, most days I felt around 60-70% recovered. Lots of really good days. Then I plateaued for a while, going several months without much change but I was still overall satisfied with the way things were going. Then in May of this year, I was hit with a MASSIVE downswing where I experienced a return/worsening of symptoms. I was on my 3rd cycle of ultrahard when the downswing began. I’m unsure if the ultrahard was to blame but I decided that would be my last prohormone cycle.

During this downswing I once again became concerned that I had accutane damage that was potentially not reversible by TMO.

I went to a real dark place where I stopped doing TMO properly and started obsessively reading forums and research on every corner of the internet. Was going nuts trying to sort through all the proposed mechanisms and protocols on post drug syndromes. I went balls deep. Fell back into drinking/weed too.
Ultimatley, nothing came of all this reading, (no suprises there). I read a lot of work on PAS/PFS by a guy who has a bioinformatics/biomed background on r/accutanerecovery. He essentially claims to have found the cause of these syndromes and the cure, but my gut tells me he might be speaking too soon. There are people trying the "cure" on the subreddit so I'll periodically check on their results.

Also I did see cannabinoids (rick simpson oil) cured a few post-accutane guys and I even obtained some from a good source but that's more of a plan B at the moment than something I plan to hop on immediatley.

I'm back to TMO which is still my preffered way forward as simplicity and structure is important for me personally. Just gotta take it day-by-day. Doubt and self-sabotage have undoubtedly delayed my progress.

That being said, the hackstasis natural electrolyte protocol is interesting. While I don't currently plan on doing it I'll keep it in the back of my mind.
As for how I feel today: Around 50%. I'm still not completley out of the downswing that started in May but I'm trending upward. Lately there have been more days with improved mental clarity, mood and libido.

Thinking of doing another water fast.
Any suggestions welcome and I hope everyone is doing well.

Never giving up.

A lot has changed since my last post, thankfully for the better....

Basically in late August, I said fuck it and began taking cannabis oil, inspired by the accutane success stories from this post. I took it for 50 days.
2-3 weeks in, my anhedonia, brain fog, erection quality, dick sensation, skin/eye dryness, all began noticeably improving. And kept improving from there.

I couldn't believe it. Cannabis oil?! But it worked. Comparing myself pre-oil to now, it's night and day. I've been off the oil for 3 weeks now and the gains have stuck.

Taking the oil was the most intense experience of my life, it felt like my soul was being re-injected into my body, as kooky as that sounds. That chemical depression induced by the finasteride and/or accutane is completley gone. No more of that foggy zombie state. It's hard to believe.

With all that said, cannabis oil isn't a silver bullet. In fact there are two accutane guys on this forum that tried it without success, tanedout and vicecaz. For me taking the oil was a very bumpy ride, with a fair share of side effects. By day 48 on the oil I started getting panic attacks, hypomania and insomnia, all 3 of which I have never experienced, so it was pretty scary. If my family wasn't there to help, it could have been pretty bad. This is why I quit after 50 days. Luckily the sides faded after I quit, but I still had to go through a nasty cannabis withdrawl which lasted two weeks.

If anyone reading wants to try the oil, proceed with extreme caution. It's a powerful substance. At the very least you will be heavily sedated and unable to work, if you are taking it during the day.

This was all a big risk, but for me it paid off. After the withdrawl symptoms faded, I've felt the best I have since this all began. I can't believe I'm saying this but I put myself at around 85% currently. I'm still doing TMO (without prohormones) to get the last bit of recovery, and enjoying it more than ever. I'm very sensitive to the herbs, in a good way, and lifting finally gives me a proper endorphin rush.

I still have some oil left, I'm not excluding the possibility of resuming it one day, but my gut instinct tells me my body needs a break for now.

I once again crave women, partying, and socializing like I used to. But it's too soon to stray from the grind. Gotta feel 100% for 6 months first.

I plan to report back here, but probably not until I'm fully recovered. I have found that for me, reducing exposure to forums and discords related to PFS/PAS has been key for mental health. I have nothing against anyone in these spaces, in fact I learned some incredibly valuable stuff from some very smart dudes. But now I feel like I'm pretty self-sufficient and have acheived "PFS escape velocity" lol.

Keep fighting, everyone.

Honestly man. You did good. 85%. That number is so nice. Don’t Fuck yourself up and be crazy parties. But go enjoy life. You can go out and not drink etc. who knows what happens in this life. You’re never guaranteed tomorrow as much as we always expect it.

So go live this life the best you can right now without hurting yourself. Be proud. Be confident.

I do look back when I had pfs and I was recovering. I know I did it right. No I wasn’t in perfect health. I was at 85% or so. but I lived.

I have friends who stopped participating in life’s fortunes due to things like quitting booze. “Oh I quit booze so I can’t be in that environment.” I was opposite of that in my pfs recovery. I went and did life. And enjoyed it very much. Without much if any booze.

I’d stay on the grind but enjoy this world every day .

Thank you man, appreciate the reply. You're right. Need to chill and adopt that mindset now, of simply enjoying life, while still looking after my health. It's gonna take some time cuz I was in some crazy warrior/survival mode for like 3 years lol. But it's time to find a balance of sorts.

Good stuff. One thing I did when I was recovering was a liver flush every 2 to 3 weeks. It was very simple to be honest. The first 2 or so weren’t fun. But in time they became so easy where I was running miles a few hours after waking up with the flush.

I think it just made my digestion and detox systems so robust that I didn’t ever have to live the perfect lifestyle. I had a good good diet but I could cheat easily. My system was so strong.
